Water Loss Academy 2018 was held in Sarajevo from September 11 to 13, 2018.
During the first day of the academy, all participants of the academy attended the lectures and exercises named “Technical Strategy for Reduction of Water Losses” performed by Mr. Djevad Koldzo.

Within this topic, the participants were introduced to methodologies and concepts for defining values of NRW and Water loss reduction.

At the beginning of the second day of the Academy, the representative of the general sponsor, Herman Sewerin GmbH presented the latest products of this world brand in terms of leak detection devices and positioning of pipelines, after which the participants were divided into 4 groups.

Groups A and B attended the lectures prof. dr. Suad Špage on the topic: Managing the process of rehabilitation of the pipe infrastructure, and lectures by Aleksandra Tomić – Čato on the topic: Procedures for reducing apparent (commercial) water losses.

Groups C and D were transported by bus to the Water Loss Training Centre, where each group worked separately on measuring losses, locating non-metallic and metal pipelines, and water loss detection using several different types of aquaphones, and the correlators and noise loggers. This practical training ended with a competition among groups in leak detection on the Water Loss polygon.

On the third day of academy, Groups A and B worked at the Water Loss Training Centre, while the C and D groups attended lectures by Dr. Špage and Mr. Aleksander Tomić Čato.

The Water Loss Academy in 2018 was completed by awarding the certificates to participants.

82 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia took part at this year’s academy

Academy attendees have gained access to the Water Loss Forum, where they can find materials, but also share experiences and get answers to their questions about NRW and Water Loss reduction in their waterworks.

The next Water Loss Academy will be held in September 2019. Water Loss Academy 2019 will be a continuation of the previous academy and will present the next levels of analysis and water loss reduction methodologies. When it comes to practical exercises, participants will work in the Water Loss Training Centre on practical examples of pressure regulation and budget savings, and will have the opportunity to get to know and work on the so-called. leakage detection with tracing gas.

For those who miss this year’s academy, and above all for those whose applications due to a limited number of students we could not receive, a program from the previous academy will be organized within the Water Loss Academy 2019 in order to continue to follow lectures and exercises at the Water Loss Academy 2019.
